"We have trust issues." Mylar

My dad is a 6' tall, black man who speaks English as a first language. The DH is a 5'7" (on a good day) white, latino, native spanish speaker. However, they are both smart cookies and snazzy dressers. And neither one is bald (Although I think I may be a bald old woman since I already have thinning edges. Good thing I'll be able to wear the Big Momma wigs). So, there you go.

If I only had a brain...

The women preferred the smell of the t-shirts worn by men who had the same HLA (immune system) genes that their fathers had. Mother's HLA genes didn't matter.

If this is the study I'm thinking about, there was a depressing side note: women who were on the Pill couldn't tell the difference.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Is it important to be able to tell the difference? Does sharing her father's HLA have any payoff for the kids or the relationship?

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

What is HLA? I've noticed that I can get info about someone's HLA status and if I were choosing a mate, why would it matter?

I mean, is it advantageous to be HLA negative?

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Cool chair. Bad name.

The earth is doomed:

A ringtone made its way to the top of the British singles chart this Sunday, topping Brit-rock group Coldplay. Ringtone Crazy Frog Axel F outsold Coldplay's Speed of Sound 4-1, making for a disapointing opening weekend for the popular band.

Crazy Frog Axel F is based off the revving sound of a Swedish mo-ped. It marks the first time a ringtone made it to the singles chart for conventional music sales. Interestingly enough, most of the ringtone's sales have come from a CD, not from digital download.

"This song is incredibly irritating and puerile and we're still trying to understand why people like it," Gennaro Castaldo, a spokesman for HMV [A British music retailer], said

My response to that chair was, "I wonder how high the comfort score is? Can my Sims afford it?"

It's unknown whether this makes any difference for the offspring. It could be the equivalent of using paternal relatives to judge baldness (just feeling comfortable with the familiar) or it could be something of adaptive significance. HLA genes certainly play a role in susceptibility to a variety of illnesses by affecting immune response, but as far as I know, there are not 'good' HLA genes and 'bad' HLA genes. Also, the women weren't choosing the "best" shirts. They were choosing the ones with similar HLA to their fathers. It was hard to understand.
