I would think Thing would have more difficulty wielding a sword than a lightsaber, as the center of gravity of the sword is away from the handle, resulting in Thing sometimes tipping over.

Not always. Some swords have their fulcrums near the hilt. What sort of sword? Where do epees balance? Rapiers?
I am completely fascinated by the teeny apartments.

But could Cousin Itt handle a lightsaber without self-immolation?

Marc would almost have Nilly feeling she's a bit mean, but not quite -- because that wouldn't be nice.
He's that good. And he tackles the messy stuff too. No avoiding touchy subjects for him.
Fencing foils balance about eight inches forward of the hilt, I think. (Fencers? Where are you?)
what? you think I avoid stuff? bring it.
But could Cousin Itt handle a lightsaber without self-immolation?
Heh. No, unless he (she? it?) used the Force to keep the hair away from the lightsaber.
msbelle, does this skirt make me look fat?
Rapiers and balance -- a conclusion in the article is that the balance is where it is for a reason -- I wonder how the feel of fighting with just a hilt (i.e. lightsaber) affects the battle? I know momentum is useful in your swing.
