Quantifyably -- we get more of them, they involve more of the body, and they tend to last longer.
Qualitatively -- well, that's pretty objective other than the "laying there like all but your brain-stem is awol" factor.

Try this simulations with more than 30 cars, IIRC, and pretty soon you'll see jams appearing. We never put them in, but they were created anyway. They are also created IRL.
I've heard of this, and found it very interesting. Sometimes there will be traffic jams for no reason, when the highway is handling significantly less that its theoretical maximum traffic.
Although often it is slow people in the fast lane who are to blame....
