[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Y'know, if I had had a math teacher like Fay, I probably would have liked math classes a LOT more.

I'm enjoying Maths a lot more now than I ever did in school. It's nice to have the chance to revisit it as an adult. However, this particular lesson is a rarity - I need to find far more opportunities for doing this kind of physical learning in all subjects. It's totally The Way Forward.

Re: Hufflepuffs in Harry Potter - I presume that both are from the whole Big Bad Wolf Thing - "I'll Huff and I'll Puff and I'll Blow This House Down" style of thing. Um.

Ok...here's a brief summary of all of the pieces going in the portfolio. If you see anything that strikes you as a possible title for the whole thing, let me know.

Poems:

A Study of The Leader – a nice Bush-bashing poem

A Study of Bastet, the Black Cat – a series of 6 short poems on Bastet

Valentine Choice – a series of 8 haikus about a mother/wife who is hospitalized and receives divorce papers on Valentine’s Day

The Visitor – a poem about visiting a friend in the psychiatric ward for the first time, after having normally been on the other side (the person being visited)

Singleness – a sestina about being single… “the little black dress”

Calls – a sonnet about the phone calls from J asking for help, then the time she didn’t call

The Choice – a poem about choosing between life and death

Abortion is Not the Cause - a poem about abortion not being the cause of everything the right claims it is (like Social Security, breast cancer, moral decline, etc).

Short-Short Fiction:

I Love Lucy – a piece about “Lucy,” who comes home from work late one night, sits down to watch an episode of her namesake’s show and is the victim of an attempted break-in. Only, the “break-in” is actually her family trying to get into the very locked up apartment. The whole ordeal happens in the length of time of the episode of I Love Lucy.

Moving Out – a story about the moving day of a woman who has been kicked out of her husband’s house. It becomes clear during the day that her best friend, who came to support her, is having an affair with her husband.

The Beginning of the End (or Pizza Night…I’m still not sure of this title) – What seems to be a normal Spring evening at home, ordering pizza, turns into finding out that one’s good friend has been found dead.

ETA: So far, the best thing I've come up with is "Choices."

Punishingly Intricate

If you see anything that strikes you as a possible title for the whole thing, let me know.

The first thing that came to my mind is "Calls" ...and...I'm not sure if I'm smart enough at this time of the day to articulate why.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

Oh, Betsy! That sucks! No chance of bonus and no chance of overtime? So sucks.

We had to convert some people to hourly last year, but they all get overtime now. And, they still get a chance at a bonus. So really? It's a win situation for them.

Teppy, I like your Big!Boss. As fundie-freaky as he can be, he's protective of His Own.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

I really want you to call your portfolio "A Bug's Life" but it's kinda in-jokey.

Oh, Erin, I love that. Unfortunately, I think my prof would go, "Huh?" I think I'll have to save it for the title of my autobiography some day.
