Well, I think I'll be able to handle myself mostly, I was just thinking that if somebody knows a particular mistake in adjusting to the city life that I could avoid. I am curious about what groundwork I need to start setting to be able to get an apartment without TOO much hassle in a year's time, as having a place to live seems like pretty much the most important part of being there.

Spike's Bitches 23: We've mastered the power of positive giving up.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Most bank websites have things where you can enter a zipcode and find the nearest ATMS--you could try a few banks, and see how many ATMs pop up.
The first few times I went to NYC, it seemed like everyone was getting their cash from those little ATMs in convenience stores. I couldn't figure it out--why was everyone paying the fee? I think my friends were just lazy or something. :) The last few times I've been there, I've had no problem finding a BofA ATM. Not that I necessarily recommend them (though I've had no big problems with them either, I'm sure someone can tell stories).
This is a really funny paragraph until you realize BF /= boyfriend.I did the same thing... On more than one post.
Which suit? Black or gray?Gray! (They both look really good but I think the gray stands out more. Cause who doesn't wear black to a job interview just cause it is the easy choice. So I think it adds a different way to remember you.) and job~ma.
Job~ma for Hil too.
That's all I have.
I am still cranky at iTunes for not having the crack cd I wanted this morning. I found Echo's Bring on the Dancing Horses which they only started offering recently but it is lukewarm comfort. Well, it is yay! but it isn't what I went looking for earlier.
Everyone I know uses Shitibank, but more out of habit/laziness than anything else. After them, Chase probably has the second-most ATMs of anyone. (But like meara said, we mostly just suck it up and pay the fees, because we're too lazy to walk the four blocks to find one of our own banks when every corner bodega has one that's right there.)
So yeah, like Jess said--bodega ATMs being the way to go, try to find a bank/account type that allows you to use other ATMs without having to pay another fee, at least a few times a month. I've got one like that from BofA, but it requires having a lot in savings. I'm sure there are others (there are some internet banks that not only won't charge you for using the ATM, they'll reimburse the fee the ATM itself charges, I think...)
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the first question
I thought I was being fairly straightforward: I meant, if Israel dissolved tomorrow, how many countries in the world would refuse to take the citizens?
But it sounds like your original post was meant from a historical perspective, in which case, nevermind. I agree that it's fairly futile to argue now about what our grandparents and great-grandparents should have done in the '40s.
I know for the first year at least I won't have direct deposit available, so an internet bank is probably a lot of hassle (no storefront or branded ATMS means no guaranteed easy way to deposit checks with no wait) for now. I might just grab the cheapest citibank checking account for the duration and re-evaluate once I have a steady actual real-life job.
Though citibank doesn't look bad. I'd do nearly everything online anyway, and they look pretty well set up for that. Any particular reason you call them Shitibank, stories, or is it just the fact that they're huge and therefore naturally hard to deal with?

They routinely make major accounting errors (lost money, incorrectly linked accounts, etc) and either refuse to acknowledge that they've made them, or claim to have already fixed them when they really haven't. You really have to constantly monitor your accounts, or you'll get screwed.
Checking flight schedules and praying that since I haven't had a phone call yet, DH is going to be on the 11 o'clock flight home.
Hec, hair question. I've let mine get to gross and outgrown but it's not long enough for the style I want. Can I get away with one of the styles on this Japanese style gallery? I'm looking at the first short cut (S-13).
