Hec, how was Ellen's (is that her name?) ball-fear?
That is her name, and she was a no-show at practice Friday and both games this weekend. We fear that that she has succumbed to fear of the hardball and is bailing on us, which really bums me out. Aside from the fact that I really like Ellen personally, you just hate to see a kid give in to their fear. It's the sort of thing that really settles into the psyche. You just want every story to be a success story - especially with the smart interesting nice kids. Doesn't always play that way.
eta: As a side note, Ellen is also playing soccer concurrently so it's not like she'd be dropping sports altogether. At some point she'd have to drop one sport for the other anyway.
On the flipside, our other girl player, Emily, who has been in a hitting slump all season, broke out in the last two games with big line drives into the outfield.
They had plays in today's game that were just pure baseball. Our defense finally finallly jelled and we were getting the other team out on the basepaths.
Nathan threw out a baserunner at first from Rightfield for the last out in an inning. I ran out on to the field yelling, "You know who did that!?! Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente did that!" Emmett played really well today, breaking out of his hitting slump, and making some key plays in the field (including the other outfield assist).
