Seeing good dad's in action always makes me teary eyed, because my father died when I was 2. Teacup Guy and I were out to dinner a few weeks ago and this father and daughter were out to dinner. It was a very nice restaurant and they were all dressed up, and it made me tear up a bit to watch how good the father was with his daughter. I don't think TCG understood why I was being so emotional though.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
My wife says I'm a good Dad sometimes, but then she also says I'm a terrible parent at times.
This is pretty much what I have predicted for my DH, should he ever become a father. He will definitely be a wonderful Dad -- animal balloons for everyone! -- but he doesn't believe in having rules or boundaries. He wants free range children, and I want bedtimes.

Gud, I would totally vote for you in a Dad Of The Year contest. Probably with a special Hard Work and Patience nomination in the Husbands category too.
He wants free range children
I have an image of them scratching at the carpet and curling up in heaps whenever they're tired.
He wants free range children, and I want bedtimes.
I bet if you make sure he deals with the kids whenever they're sleep deprived and cranky he'll view bedtimes more fondly.
Must not gloat, must not gloat, it is tacky to gloat.
LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Rev. Jerry Falwell was hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday, battling his second case of viral pneumonia in just five weeks, hospital and church officials said.
Allah has just a few words for you, Jerry. Jesus, too.
No. He's not supposed to die. It's way too fun to walk around saying "Jerry Fall well" when he's done something lately t /Sports Night geek

I suspect this will happen, too. At least, I hope so. Meanwhile, he's baffled why anyone has to tell their kids to go to sleep. "Won't they just go to sleep eventually?" he says.

Admittedly, this is true, but YEventuallyMV considerably from the kid's.
I actually do know one child who will voluntarily put himself to bed or even stop playing and lie down for a nap, courteously excusing himself from company, at the age of not-quite-four. But just the one. His parents regard him with wonder and something like fear, and I'm pretty sure his sleep habits are a mystically created In Every Generation There Can Be Only One-type deal.

That's funny.
