If Lucas were to die, I'm sure he'd put all his copyright- and trademark-controlled assets into trust for his kids, and the person who ran that trust would charge billions and billions of dollars for every reference/image/whatever, and get lawsuit-happy against fair uses besides. That's how trusts stay solvent.
