I'm making a mix CD for my mom, and while I had a perfectly respectable bunch of songs off stuff I already own, I keep thinking of things I just HAVE to have for her! Mary is pretty consistently the Boring Good Girl of the Little House books, though she gets a lot more human and sympathetic when they're teenagers--I think that's partly because she's blind, and partly because Laura herself is more mature. In the early books, Laura is very jealous of Mary because Mary never gets into trouble and gets lots of praise from adults (not their parents, but everyone else), for being the pretty one.
