Should've typed "Summers", huh?ETA: Maybe I'm the bad Buffista because I only read the other Joyce, once for school and once because if he upsets People Like That enough to ban there must be something in it. I think I got it a little but not all of it.
Tales of the Gold Monkey!
Loved that show.
I am a light sleeper so anything wakes me up. Dawn, birds, cars, flushing, etc. Generally I am the first one up. The boys wake up easily enough although I use the singing when gentle requests fail. Showtunes always. They may choose alarms one day, but I'll still wake up because I don't trust alarms.

Dude. I wasn't even able to get through it once. But then, I have the attention span of a gnat.
Joyce & Ulysses is one of those things you get by cultural osmosis, even if you haven't read the source material. It's sort of like how I recognize all the lines from the Godfather movies without ever having watched them.
The only singing I remember my mother doing in the morning is "Let It Snow" in the winter. That was the signal to go back to sleep, because it was a snow day.
"The mine caved in Nova Scotia and killed a bunch of guys"
Spring Hill Mining Disaster, Aimee. The close, minor harmonies are incredible.
Kitchen noises when I am not in the kitchen=someone else making me food, which is always a delightful thing to contemplate.
I have never made this connection. Possibly because there never was a connection, at least, not in the morning. Kitchen noises meant putting away clean dishes. At 6AM. With loud clatters and bongs and clacks and crashes.
Camp counselor woke me up by singing the "Good morning to you! Good morning to you! You look very drowsy! In fact you look lousy!" song back when I was still in elementary school. It made me sociopathic. If I'd gone back, I'm certain that I'd be fucking up the statistics on serial killers by now.

Word. I have a ton of things like that.
Pern, ijs.
