I used to hand out buttons promoting the Well in the early 90's (they were kind of twilight zonish, as I recall), but I never had an account. Too poor.
I miss the Whole Earth Catalog.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.

The Well was the first BBS that I spent any amount of time on (it's why I bought my first 2400 kbps modem). At the time it seemed weird that my lowly XT-clone was suddenly communicating with people all over the world. I remember I was really nervous my first few posts....
Nowadays it feels a little strange to be on a computer that's not connected to the internet.
Not vortex, but I can answer the Eyes questions:
it turns out that she shot him so that it took out part of his head. He explained it as some sort of injury acquired while repairing his car. (I think.) I also think it was lame.
Hanging out with writers on ... Holy Crap, I can't dredge up the name of the network, anymore ... before Compuserve... t memfault
Gawd, I'm old.
eta: BitNet!
GEnie? I was on that back in teh day.
eta: fine...make me look like a crazy person.
We had the Whole Earth catalog. We had stack of them in the basement.
I think we used to go online with Compuserve. Yeah, that was it. I remember Dad checking out the FAA weather reports. That was - 21 years ago, maybe?
sumi, you're right, it was totally lame. But I am so totally ambivalent about Nora Gage. She's smoking hot, dangerous, smart, and interesting. But, she's a traitor. But I love her! I am torn.

Thanks sumi and Vortex! And agreed, LAME. Ah well.
We watched Eyes after watching this week's Grey's Anatomy last night, and Eyes suffered mightily by the juxtaposition. Enh, it's relatively entertaining.
ChiKat: Maybe not.
Anne Rice and Bujold and Farmer and other sciffies of the just-barely pre-cyberpunk era would meet up on Wednesday evenings in a chatroom. I would lurk, in amazement. It was awesome.
It could have been Genie. In fact, I think it was.
