Tivo is recording Superbowl X highlights for me. This is actually a step up from the sitcoms I usually end up watching while waiting for the real shows to come on.

I'm betting the wee bit of plaster looks almost unbearably cute.

This came up. Emmett suggested maybe just initials since there wasn't a lot of surface area, but the doctor said No Signing. (Because putting pressure on the nose is counter productive in this instance.)

Emmett was fine through the whole thing until the very end when they took out the IV. Which apparently hurt quite a lot, at least in his opinion.

His Mom went into the OR with him (dressed in disposable scrubs). He went out almost instantly and she came back to the waiting room in tears. I think it was just release, but also just...it's a little scary to see your kid go lights out.

The anesthesiologist obligingly offerred him several flavors for his gas mask (which he also got to keep). He opted for strawberry. (They just put a drop of scent inside the mask itself - they don't blend strawberries with the gas.)

Apparently the first thing Emmett said on awakening, was "Well, that was an interesting dream."

He was very thoughtful and chatty after the whole thing. Though he didn't like the IV one bit. At least they inserted it after he was under general anesthesia, so he didn't feel it going in. Our last nurse entered the room asking how he was doing and got an earful of "Well, the problem is this thing in my arm. It really hurts. Okay, maybe only a 3 on a scale of 10, but I drank my Sprite and I think it can come out now."

He's at his Mom's house tonight and tomorrow. I've got him on the weekend, and next Monday he goes back to school and can tell war stories.

Moi aussi. I feel kind of like a big baby since I know other parents have to go through heart surgeries and cleft palate repair and much bigger trauma. But in 8 1/2 years, this is only the second time Emmett's ever even been to an emergency room. (He's very active, but he's just balanced and in control mostly.)

What a relief. I'm so glad too.

Hahahahah. I was never that calm and collected at that age. By then I'd had over 100 stitches in my face and spent 3 days in the hospital following a catastrophic asthma attack - after that, I got all kinds of panicky and weird about Things Medical.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled 3 years ago - Jilli can attest to this - and I was so nervous ahead of time I was given a Valium to take the morning of the procedure. I got all chatty and goofy, couldn't stand up straight. Went out like a light under general and woke up 1.5 hours later with no perception of the time passage. My memory of leaving the surgeon has no relation to what actually happened, and I promptly called my mom on my cel to tell her I was okay. She still has that voice mail and plays my mumbly, incoherent ranting to her friends for laughs.

Emmett sounds much more like I should've, and I sound like he - stereotypically - could've. :)
