Buffista Movies 4: Straight to Video

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I think Miss Everyone-Will-Suffer can put more eerieness in her acting performance.

The true horror is that Dakota isn't acting. She's a living uncanny valley.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

especially after reading the Voice thing.

That's exactly why I read the Voice film section. Because I know they'll be covering a lot of films that they've seen in film festivals that may or may not be released stateside so I can track them down in the video store. There are plenty of other resources for tracking mainstream film.

Don't go harshing on J. Hoberman!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Don't go harshing on J. Hoberman!

BAH! I will harsh if I want to. I'm fine with the coverage throughout the year, because they do review all kinds of things. It was just having the year-end wrap-up be so full of people and films I'd never heard of that bugged. Not that I follow cinema.

Jesse's Resolution For The New Year: Quit smoking (again), see more film festivals in Berlin and Bangkok, preferably featuring lots of directors I've never heard of before. Get Makeover by famous fashion designer, preferably while on television.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I think I'll start with just trying to shift the superhero/non-superhero movie ratio a bit.

Which way? I'm thinking with your current romance it's going to be more superheroes more of the time.

LESS SUPERHEROS. Really, a smaller ratio, is what I'm going for. Mostly, I just need to get to the movies more, and with other people. Or alone, as I'm doing tonight, to finally see Good Night and Good Luck.

Hey, leave the superheroes alone.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

with your current romance

Wait, there's a current Jesse romance? How do I miss these things? Why don't you keep me updated on the important stuff?

It's not exactly a brand new romance. I hesitate to post about the details of Jesse's life without her go ahead.
