The info I'd read must have been out of date then.
Unless something changed and changed back between the 80s and now, it was very out of date.
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Also interesting is that they have a "position of trust" thingy which means that if you're over 18 and in a position of trust over someone who's 17, you're a sex offender. Does the US have anything like that?
I don't know, I've never heard of it. But some states have laws where statutory rape depends on the age difference between the parties; narrowing that crime to one where the older person has influence over the younger makes sense. And there are similar laws where your legal position depends on whether you're in a position of influence. Like if you receive a dispensation in a will-- I don't remember what exactly happens.
Even if 16 + 23 = jail time, wouldn't they have to prove that they're actually having Teh Sex? I mean, I know it may be uncommon and all, but I imagine people could still be in a sex-free relationship. Or does snogging count as sexual activity?
This is the one about the dueling turn of the century magicians, right? I think we can expect to see both Bale and Jackman in tuxedos here.
We can only hope. The Prestige is a very nifty, if odd, book. I need to dig out my copy and re-read it. When Pete told me about the Bowie casting, he paused and said "Bowie and Bale in the same movie. I'm going to have to peel you off the screen, aren't I?"
"Bowie and Bale in the same movie. I'm going to have to peel you off the screen, aren't I?"
Do they make out?
Who wrote The Prestige ? I've never heard of it, but clearly I must read it.
Do they make out?
Yes.
(You were talking about the version currently playing in my head, yes?)
Bowie, 58, will star alongside Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and Michael Caine in forthcoming film The Prestige, according to movie industry magazine Variety.
So, Jilli, want to see it with me opening night?
(You were talking about the version currently playing in my head, yes?)
Which is the same as the version in my head, so I think the answer MUST be yes, they make out. Jessica and I say so.
