Carrell was on the Daily Show last night, and the scene they showed was amusing, if a bit obvious.
That's probably the least funny scene in the movie. (The problem is that most of the really funny scenes include lines like "Why you always telling me to fuck goats, man??" so they don't make good TV clips. Carell's stream of profanity while he's getting his chest waxed made my face hurt from laughing so hard.)

I swear I heard somewhere that he got this done for real in the movie. Considering they had a TDS clip of him eating what looked like Crisco right out of the can (I pray it was frosting or something, but it looked a LOT like the real thing), that wouldn't surprise me.
The weird part is, Damon with an English accent.

Oh it's definitely real. With a real waxing technician (not an actress) who keeps cracking up in the background. The whole scene is just priceless.

The 40 Year-Old Virgin is a surprisingly funny movie.
I'll watch anything associated with Judd Apatow. I even liked lots of Anchorman (although I'm still annoyed that they went to the trouble of hiring a bunch of ex-Mr. Show cast regulars, even the funniest man in America, Jay Johnston, and gave them practically no lines).
I was surprised that my usual "Ugh! Can't... take... the... smugness!" reaction to Carell was entirely absent when watching the trailers. Maybe humiliation humor where he plays a humble, earnest character is the way to go.

I feel the same way about hiring Ian Roberts and cutting Amy Poehler's scene-- and McKay was in Upright Citizens Brigade! Admittedly, he did well in getting paying jobs for a *lot* of under-known people out of Second City.
Cool DVD release of the week: Astaire/Rogers boxed set! Includes Top Hat, Swing Time, Follow the Fleet, Shall We Dance, and The Barkleys of Broadway, and the extras include commentaries on three of the films, cartoon, comedy, and dance shorts, as well as a few featurettes.
Ok - that explains why TCM played all of those movies back to back yesterday.
I didn't think I would want to see 40-Year Old Virgin, but both of the clips I've seen on TDS have tempted me. (I liked the one with Paul Rudd and whosiwhatsit calling each other gay, with the topper being, "You're so gay you like Coldplay.")
