We have to see the chimp playing hockey! That's hilarious! The ice is so slippery, and, and monkeys are all irrational. We have to see this!

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Saw the trailer for Mirrormask at the theater tonight. Wow. Dave McKean is fully capable of directing (the visuals at least) of the Sandman books right now. It's like walking into an entire world of his covers.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I saw Wedding Crashers and laughed till I cramped.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Went to Hustle and Flow last night. So nice to see a move which uses real locations and actors who look like real people and intimate storytelling do well. terrence Howard is HAWT. Wonmderful sloe-eyes that man has.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

The movie we saw last night was Sky High. Very predictable and formulaic. But the guy who played Warren Peace? (Steven Strait, I think) was all kinds of gorgeous and charismatic. And even seemed to have a few acting chops in his quieter scenes. Dude's got star quality.

eta: So, he was a model, and now he's leader of a rock band named Tribe. And he's going to be in a movie (show?) called Undisovered co-starring Tyson The Skateboarding Bulldog.

Check it out, ita Here he is when he was a 16 y.o. pretty boy. But already 6'2" - and grew up playing lots of hoops in NYC. He boxes too. He's harder looking in the movie than these shots show.

Any other sports interest you?

I've been boxing for the past four years.

Since you were twelve? What got you started?

Because of my mom really. She's a third-degree Karate black belt and a long time east-coast Karate champion. So I sort of picked up on that, starting with Karate, which I did for eight years. Then, when I got tired of it I moved into boxing. I've got a lot of energy. (laughs)

Art Crawl!!!

So, my feeling that I had seen him before was probably incorrect? (Unless I saw pictures of him when he was a model?)

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

A friend of mine wants a list of movies with "beautiful dancing" in them. I haven't really seen enough to give her many recommendations beyond Strictly Ballroom and Dirty Dancing. And I'd like to see more, too. So... anyone want to add their recs to the list?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Lambada: The Forbidden Dance -- okay, maybe not beautiful. Never saw it. Do you know what she means by beautiful? Would Flashdance or Footloose or Breakdance II: Electric Boogaloo count?

Woe to the fucking wicked.

How does she define "beautiful dancing"?

Because "White Nights" is really impressive, but very not "Dirty Dancing"

hip deep in pie

My mind instantly goes to old movies. Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Gene Kelly. Top Hat. Singing in the rain. An American in Paris. Busby Berkely movies. Someone else will know better recs, this is not really my area.

Also, The Red Shoes by Powell and Pressburger.
