A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Hey. New board.

Fourthing the yay. Also saying that Hollywood Reporter and Variety both have fairly positive reviews of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory up, which you can get to through the metacritic site.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I wonder if Johnny Depp breaks out in a rendition of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" at any point?

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Finally saw BATMAN BEGINS over the weekend, and my response was "Oh HELL yeah!"

Quite possibly the best super-hero movie I've ever seen. Much as I loved the two Burton movies, this is the Batman movie I've been waiting for.

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

Oooooo. Just found out that Mizayaki's Warriors of the Wind has just been re-released on DVD as Nausicaä of the Valley of the Winds. Not up to giving it the hours of rapt attention it deserves tonight, but I'm not making any plans for next weekend.

We watched this a few weeks back. I'd always heard great things about Nausicaä, but it all felt like a less complex dry run for Princess Mononoke to me. I liked Castle In The Sky (which I also saw recently for the first time) much more.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Nausicaä is a prototypical Mary Sue. Miyazaki's characterizations got better as time went on.

I couldn't agree more. Also, the good guys were all good and the bad guys were all bad. The only ambiguity was in the motives of the gigantic cthulhu monsters.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Aw, I love Nausicaa. More than Mononoke, even, which I found more convoluted than complex.

I think Freddy Quimby should walk out of here a free hotel

Delurking.

'Cause I see things I want to respond to and then think "Damn, I better delurk before jumping into a conversation". And then I don't and the whole demented cycle begins again.

So... hello.

Hello! Uh, I'm not really sure how to nick your name. IANRAS?

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Let's use Spring, for maximum irony value.
