Can you imagine this movie with Johnny Depp and Nicole Kidman? Just not right.
Actually, I can see Lucy Liu in that scenario, as well as Jennifer Garner. They both fall into my category of
oh, just give them a second to recover and you're a dead man.
Halle Berry's never triggered that in me, despite her "action" resume. Don't get me started about the rest of the Angels. Well, okay, I'd like to see Drew in that scenario too.
I didn't squirm during that bit, probably because it was
so detached from reality (more than any of the other physical combat bits) -- she had absolutely no negative after effects, so it read more like John being crazy than actually hitting someone else.
Also, if the person being
kicked had been male,
I probably wouldn't have reacted any differently.
Uma got quite a lot of beatings in Kill Bill, but it never felt like she wasn't equal to (or better than) her opponent.
I flinched a little during that bit, but it was the
kicking,
that got to me, not the
Angelina.
It just looked really painful.
How about Patricia Arquette vs. James Gandolfini in True Romance?
NSM. That wasn't really a popcorn movie beating. In this one I think the audience is supposed to sympathize with Pitt.
More than you're supposed to sympathise against him (you know what I mean) when he's being hit?
I'm not sure what you mean, but I think we're supposed to find each character's success satisfying. So yes, we like it when Jane gets her licks in, and we like it when he gets his in. As long as it's not obvious that one is terribly wounding the other.
I really wish there were some morning krav classes in town. I would totally!
I was just wondering if you found it evenhanded, or skewed to one side or the other.
I would totally!
I wish it were
that
fun every time.
But sometimes it's kinda.
More sex and violence:
Clive Owen is taking aim at "Shoot-Em-Up" for New Line.
"Sin City" star is in final negotiations for a pay-or-play deal estimated at mid-seven figures, triggering a greenlight for the ultraviolent pic, which will start production in January.
Script by Michael Davis, who will also helm, would feature Owen as a mysterious man protecting a newborn baby from criminals out to kill it. Set pieces include a shootout during a sex scene and another in the midst of a freefall.
I can't lie. Clive's one of my favourite picks for mixing the two themes.
Shootout during sex scene and shootout in freefall?
Or tough guy and baby?
