Oh goodness, I'd forgotten Torch Song. Yes, she practically disappeared into that role. Damn. She was good.

Buffista Movies 4: Straight to Video
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Charing Cross is my favorite Bancroft role, though I love her in The Turning Point, too. The fighting in the parking lot scene with Shirley MacLaine is just wonderful. And of course, The Miracle Worker. Mrs. Robinson is the fourth role of hers I think of.
Turning Point has the added virtue of my first girlfriend being in it.
I liked Torch Song and Turning point, but they are not on my Favorites List so I can't quote them till you throw stuff...that was the only place I was going with that.
I am all about the To Be Or Not To Be. Because I hadn't understood the idea that you could be elegant and beautiful and funny all at once till that movie. Also, dressing up as clowns to escape Nazis. How can you not love that?
Gotham as Brooklyn
I think Brooklyn is not tall enough for Mr. Dark And Broody to sit atop its ramparts contemplating the city. Whereas, the Chrysler Building is perfect for that, if you are not afraid of heights, or if you are Margaret Bourke-White.
Because I never saw it.
Star Wars script. Spoilery. And funny.
INT. SOME WEIRD OPERA THING
IAN MCDIARMID You seem worried about Natalie dying. Also, you're confused about being a Jedi.
HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN (furrowing his brow) They don't want me to fuck Natalie Portman. That's insanity. Did you see her in Closer? Holy fuck.
I don't have to whitefont that, do I?
Oh, YAY! The Editing Room hasn't been funny in far too long. Good to see it back in form.
I like how the script refers to the character as SAMUEL L. MOTHERFUCKING JACKSON.
This is the line I wanted to hear:
SAMUEL L. MOTHERFUCKING JACKSON
Ian, you're under arrest for being
a manipulative motherfucker.
I saw Crash and Longest Yard last night. The later was tedious.
Crash had some terrific performances, but the writing felt awfully forced and the author's hand was everywhere. I felt that characterization and dialogue were always being sacrificed to make a point. And since the point is "racism is bad" which, hey, is something I already knew, not such a great movie-going experience.
