I'm fairly certain I said no interruptions.

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

A Lot Like Love is probably not a movie I'll go and see in the cinema but I'll certainly be checking it out when it gets to DVD. Why would I do that, you ask? The writer is Colin Patrick Lynch and he is the brother of Spidra Webster, who some of you might remember from TT, or still know over on PF.

To make it even more relevant to b.org, Colin had a bit part in both Angel and Firefly.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

hayden - I saw something in the Village Voice that might be of interest. Somewhere they were screening MAJOR DUNDEE with approx. 20 min of footage added back that never escaped the studio originally. Usually that kind of thing indicates an imminent DVD release.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Frank, there was a piece in Salon yesterday about Major Dundee, too. [link]

Hey, thanks DX! That was a(n) (in)famous train-wreck of a production. First of many for Bloody Sam.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

I was just reading the review of Kung Fu Hustle in Salon, and it happened to mention that Sammo Hung is set to direct David Hasseloff in the Knight Rider movie.

That's... so weird. [link]

Heh, yeah. I loved the quote that followed that info: "...a rumor too grusome not to be true."

Really looking forward to KUNG FU HUSTLE, though not based on that review.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Major Dundee is showing at the Kendall in Cambridge for "One Week Only!" starting April 15 . I saw a trailer for it a couple of weeks ago.

Cool! They've been doing that with a lot of interesting revival stuff (that I keep MISSING).

eta My suspicion was right - it's being released on DVD 5-31.

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

Yep, although it appears that they still haven't re-added the 30 additional minutes from Peckinpah's original cut. That film may not exist any more.

Not that it would fix the problems on the movie. If I remember correctly from Weddle and Seydor's books, Peckinpah ran out of money and time before filming most of the scenes showing Dundee's decline after being shot. And he never filmed the massacre that was supposed to open the movie. Seydor lays out some of the discrepancies between the script and the film in his book.

Anyway, I understand that the re-release has an alternate score and 15 minutes cut from producer's first take (which came after the 30 minutes cut from Peckinpah's version). I think having new music would be key. The less Mitch Miller, the better.

Also, flawed movie though it is, I'd walk over hot coals to see it on the big screen if it was feasible. Here's my crappy take on the movie for the High Hat (reading it again makes me wish I'd put it through at least one or two more drafts and wish further that the Hat had a copy editor in those days): [link]

Yeah, I printed out pretty much all the Peckinpah stuff from that issue so I could read it not staring at a computer screen. I think I commented at the time how much I loved the Straw Dogs analysis.

I will make a gianormous effort to catch it that week.
