Just started watching season one of Angel with a friend who's never seen it (we just finished our two-year Buffy journey two weeks ago). Three eps in and she hates it, and I can't say as I blame her. It doesn't really get good until Wes and Gunn join. I'm thinking of skipping ahead before she gives up for good.
Also, season five rocked, season four is dead to me, and season three is half ok, half watch-through-my fingers awful. Season two, of course, rocks the hardest.
Angel has the evolution of Bad Ass Wesley. All other arguments are invalid.
I actually preferred the Angel - Cordelia - Doyle dynamic to what came later, even if some of the individual episodes weren't that great. And "Rm w/a Vu" is still my Platonic Ideal Angel episode.
Wes asking help from the Burger Loa is pretty much my fave. Forever and ever.
Prim and proper Wes shooting the bad guy in that underground fighting episode makes me happy. But "I'll take away your bucket" has its charm. As does "It's not always walks in the rain" or whatever that line was.
"It's not always about holding hands" is how I remember it.
The first season of Angel, I often clicked away in the middle -- I forget what else was on, but yeah. And then I drifted away at the end. I have never seen the puppet episode! I should (re)watch.
Smile Time! Still on my Tivo. Always makes me smile.
So, I watched season 5 in its entirety and jeezy pete, The Body is one of the most agonizing but best hour of television. It is so gut wrenching but SO PERFECT. I am in awe of everyone involved in that episode.
Watching the Gift was heartbreaking, to see Buffy with that look of contentment and determination and relief while running off the platform.
Then Bargaining (and the rest of the start of season 6) was heartbreaking too. Poor Buffy. Poor Dawn. Poor Giles.
I remember laughing at Buffy's line, "Full! Copper! Repipe!" at the end of Flooded the first time I saw it, but it made me so sad to see tonight.
Got back on the Season 6 train (it's hard to marathon that season, so depressing.) I listen to the Once More With Feeling soundtrack every once in a while, but forgot how awesome the episode it around the songs. The visual aspect of the musical numbers is so amazing to watch.
