Comments from Spoils:
Pangs is even worse than I remember it. What a godawful mess.
the dialogue is often really funny! But everything about the thanksgiving/indigenous peoples/genocide plot line is extra cringeworthy.
So yeah.
Is it better the second time around? Or the third? Or tenth? This is the place to come when you have a burning desire to talk about an old episode that was just re-run.

They are so totes interrogating the text from the wrong perspective. As if.
"So this is Angel. He's large and glowery, isn't he?"
Damn it, Angel was in "Dopplegangland." Anya may have been more focused on getting her Necklace of Evil back, but he was there!
Sorry. I am fueled by pedantry.

And it's clear from the episode that the show is advocating genocide, AMIRITE?
t edit I'm glad I started watching BTVS before I knew I needed to be outraged about things.

I am so glad you said that. Because I'm right there with you.
Pangs could be in my top five episodes of Buffy, I love it that much.

Not to mention "The Prom", though, again, she was focused on Xander.

I love you.

Right?!?!?!?!?
Don't get me wrong; I think Joss isn't the feminist he gets lauded as being. And that wouldn't bother me if he weren't promoted as being Mr. Awesome Feminist Dood. But, you know, Fred. And Tara. And Penny. And, oh, all of Dollhouse.
But I still don't think Pangs is promoting genocide. Or that Xander is anything other than a normal high-school guy.
Hmmm. I wonder what the reaction to "Something Blue" is going to be?
(What was wrong with Tara?)
But I still don't think Pangs is promoting genocide.
I don't think that's the issue. I think it's something about Native American spirits and...something? Making light of things? I don't know. You know, any time you do anything, it's problematic.
I wonder what the reaction to "Something Blue" is going to be?
What am I supposed to be outraged about there?
