I don't think we were even this unspoiled when we were watching it the first time
I watched Surprise/Innocence first run on the TV and I remember being baffled by the meaning of Angel's scream at the end of Surprise.
Is it better the second time around? Or the third? Or tenth? This is the place to come when you have a burning desire to talk about an old episode that was just re-run.

indeed. AND I knew it didn't mean anything good.
Was the bit with the smoker in the alley at the beginning of "Innocence" instead of the end of "Surprise"?
Beginning of Innocence, IIRC.
Thanks. I almost always watch them straight through together, so I didn't have a good sense of where the cutoff was.
And Innocence is up.
Becoming 2 is really going to mess him up, isn't it?
When's Passion up?
Monday it looks. We've got Phases and then Bewitched, etc. to finish out this week.

It's a really, really great mind-fuck. There seem like 2 ways out of the Acathla dealie -- (1) Willow re-souls Angel, he's good again, no sucking into hell, yay; or (2) Buffy kills Angelus, which would still be basically okay because he's pure distilled evil who just tortured Giles.
But wait, there's more! How about option 1 AND 2?!? That? SO FUCKED UP. I never saw it coming. It's so MEAN. And pretty brilliant.
Plus Joyce finding out that Buffy is the Slayer and basically giving her the "if you walk out that door" ultimtum, AND telling Giles she blames him for everything that's happening. Or was the second one season two? It's been a while.
