'Out Of Gas'

Buffy and Angel 1: BUFFYNANGLE4EVA!!!!!1!

Is it better the second time around? Or the third? Or tenth? This is the place to come when you have a burning desire to talk about an old episode that was just re-run.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Poor Mark is going to hit Gandalf's death right about the same time Angel turns into Angelus. He's going to have a hard time handling all the Whatthefuckery. Somebody should just stand next to him with a large basket to catch his brains after his head explodes.

brillig

I keep getting the impression that they've just discovered -isms and it makes them feel like they're better people for being oh-so-enlightened.

I haven't wanted to say that, but . . .

edit: They remind me of some of the people in the '70s, who have just discovered something radical that makes them different from the mainstream. A lot of them probably are very sincere in their passion, but they haven't learned how to apply it to real life.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

The point I’m trying to make is that the attempt to portray any sort of mental illness on Drusilla’s part just feels lazy

I'm not sure how to start articulating my disagreement with this. Drusilla is not going to be a sensitive depiction of mental illness, compliant with any version of the DSM. She isn't evil because she's mentally ill, but she is evil *and* mentally ill. And psychic. I'm not sure what he wants from her at this point. A nuanced and intimate portrayal of her character is pretty impossible, for a number of reasons.

But if he really thinks she's there to *irritate* Spike, I don't think there'd be anything I could say on Dru's rather mesmerising behalf.

I can't wait until she kills Kendra.

Sorry, Kendra.

Thrive to spite them

I don't understand how Mark can not see that Spike is devoted to Dru, it's a core element to who he is.

I have to say it's interesting to read the comments of someone who sees the show so differently.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

The point I’m trying to make is that the attempt to portray any sort of mental illness on Drusilla’s part just feels lazy

I'm not sure how to start articulating my disagreement with this.

Buffistas Read Mark Watches Buffy is more entertaining than just him watching Buffy.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

This! This!

I mean, okay, it's pretty well-established that I am a Dru fangirl, but I am baffled with how much he's not getting her character.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

The point I’m trying to make is that the attempt to portray any sort of mental illness on Drusilla’s part just feels lazy

Lazy? I'm not sure but I think he's saying "I guess they meant to make her seem crazy but it isn't working"?

I never liked Dru much, but I also am completely baffled at Mark completely missing the character train. Landau did a fantastic job bringing her to life, Spike is utterly devoted to her, and she is batguano crazy, dude. How is it possible to miss any of this? Seriously, I think he's the first person I've ever read/talked to who didn't get what was up with Drusilla.

Trust my rage

My guess about the "lazy" characterization is that he is sensitive about "crazy" and therefore is having trouble getting her. Dru was never my favorite but I always liked her. I was always sad that she was the least explored of the four vampires.

"...and then Legolas and the Hulk destroy the entire Greek army." - Penny Arcade

Poor Mark is going to hit Gandalf's death right about the same time Angel turns into Angelus.

Actually, "The Bridge of Khazad-Dum" is tomorrow. He's not getting to "Innocence" until sometime next week.
