Mal: That's not what I saw. You like to tell me what really happened? Book: I surely would. And maybe someday I will.

'Safe'

Buffy and Angel 1: BUFFYNANGLE4EVA!!!!!1!

Is it better the second time around? Or the third? Or tenth? This is the place to come when you have a burning desire to talk about an old episode that was just re-run.

brillig

He's also reading Lord of the Rings for the first time, and I'm rather adoring watching him fall in love with Tolkien. He is so not prepared.

(His Mark Reads stuff is covered over in Literary)

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Seriously though, Mayor Wilkins- best villain on Buffy or best villain EVER!!?!?!?

Nope, Angel and Drusilla outdo him in my book. Maybe the Master too.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

For fun -- most underused villain? My vote is for Mr. Trick. He could have been really fun. "It's called an Uzi, chump!"

Maybe the Order of Taraka? The members we saw seemed quite interesting, but they didn't live up to their keep-sending-assassins-until-the-target-is-dead rep.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

The Mayor is number one for me in the Buffyverse.

And none of us deserving the cruelty or the grace -- Leonard Cohen

I'm enjoying The Mayor right now. I'm up to Bad Girls in my rewatch. I love S3 so much. So many great episodes left.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

The Mayor isn't my favourite Buffy Big Bad, but he is one of my favourite Big Bads ever. I'm not entirely sure why those two lists don't have to line up. I prefer S2 Spike as an antagonist, because of his relationship with Angel and growing relationship with Buffy, as well as the ever-present Dru delight.

But I think the Mayor stands out among antagonists as a whole. He's complicated, layered, and unremittingly concerned with evil. But that doesn't mean he can't be nice. And I don't see that much on other shows. So Spike does more Buffy-specific things for me, but the Mayor breaks a bigger mould, and I give him major points for that.
