In Dad they came up with a secret plan to trick the bad guys which doesn't actually make any sense because the only people who were tricked by the plan don't do anything as a result of being tricked. Which makes it clear that the only reason for all the shenanigans is to trick the audience, because if the audience knew as much as ANY of the main characters, they'd be bored.
If the writers don't have to play fair at all, anything can be written off as "this was part of the secret plan you didn' tknow about" or "and then she woke up and Bobby was in the shower" or whatever. I just think that is an appalling cheat and a betrayal of the audience's trust, and it genuinely enrages me whenever I run across it in a TV show. I feel like Buffy did it at least once, too.
Oh yes, and plus, all the "we have a cunning secret plan" thing is just the surface action. The real core of the episode, the emotional story, is that Angel realizes that he has to share parental responsibility, and trust his friends with Connor. And that realization... also happens offscreen. Which is where I think it really earns the "worst ever" title.
I do not remember "I Fall to Pieces" at all. Like it was erased from my memory.
A man's jaw jumps out of his mouth! And flies through the air and almost bites Angel! It's awesome. And terrible. Both.
