Buffy and Angel 1: BUFFYNANGLE4EVA!!!!!1!
Is it better the second time around? Or the third? Or tenth? This is the place to come when you have a burning desire to talk about an old episode that was just re-run.
From the chat:
Arlington, VA: Does The Tick live near Dr. Horrible? Moist totally gives it away.
Joss Whedon: The Tick lives IN Dr Horrible. Ben Edlund was going to do the piece with us but had to drop out. "Bad Horse" was a character he'd pitched incessantly on Angel ("How could he make a radioactive device using only HOOVES?!?!?!?") so I wanted that in, and the first thing Ben pitched for this was Moist. But he had to bail right at the beginning. Much sadness, as he's also a great song-writer. (And has an amazing singing voice. On the serious. Get him to do an album.)
Bad Horse was totally going to be leader of the Senior Partners, I think.

Disguised as a really big hart, I assume.
Hee!
Someone needed to ask him to type out the actual names of the songs!
You know, it kept nagging at me that the name Billy (Buddy) is very close to the title of a Melville book, "Billy Budd." So, I went and looked it up in Wikipedia and came up with this:
Other critics interpret Budd's character as the antithesis of Claggart, the fallen angel. Like his peers, Budd is naturally good, but also has the courage and ability to believe in his goodness to the point that it is not accessible to him as a concept. Vere represents the good man with no courage or faith in his own goodness, and is therefore susceptible to evil. Claggart is the archetypal fallen angel, a man who has abandoned his goodness for ego, and, knowing this, ie his own cowardice, seeks to seduce the flawed Vere and destroy Budd.
It's a stretch, but you could map Billy to Billy (doesn't want to hurt kids, but can only consider himself evil), Vere to Penny (good, but has to rely on Capt. Hammer to define "good" for her) and Claggart to Capt. Hammer (brags about how good he is, while disrepecting those he considers "beneath" him.) Just some food for thought.

I wonder. Definitely close enough to be possible, but I'm not sure.
