I thought they must have had some sort of pitch-correction. I don't think it can add the sweetness to Hat Girl's voice though, can it?

It can absolutely be used during live performances. Not nearly as effectively, and only in a limited way, but it can still be used. Didn't you see that Simpsons episode where Bart was in a Boy Band?
