Buffy Tarot Card set has been cancelled.
I'm so disappointed.
Is it better the second time around? Or the third? Or tenth? This is the place to come when you have a burning desire to talk about an old episode that was just re-run.
Aw, man. That's' mean. Maybe they could release it as a majors-only deck?
I don't know what difference that would make, you think it was production costs that did them in?
Possibly lisence fees, or one of the networks wouldn't sign off on image use, or the studio held a copyright on something. It usually comes down to money, though.
Well, I'd buy a majors deck just for the novelty of having the Buffy deck. And 22 cards would certainly cost a lot less to produce than the full 78.
But if it's rights and conflicts, they probably won't even try for a majors deck. Sucks.
Bummer. I was really looking forward to that. I'm guessing licensing fees and/or just sheer cussedness. Dark Horse has the rights to Buffy and IDW has the rights for Angel, yet Dark Horse is the one marketing it. (I'm not saying all rights, just print rights for the images and the cards are basically prints.)
Rats! The one piece of merchandise I was planning on buying.
Mary Greer - says:
Rumor has it that someone holding rights decided that a tarot deck would be “too occult” and attract the wrong people! Gee, did that person ever see the TV episodes that included tarot readings? Is there something more occult than vampires and witches? I guess they figured a tarot deck might give Buffy a bad name (did I say that?).
What do you think? Tarot decks "too Occult" for Buffy fans? Or "too occult" for the WB?
What would the WB have to do with it? They don't have any rights to the show or its licensing.
Would it be 20th Century then?
Not that it matters - dead is dead.
I saw a Buffy birthday card at CVS today. It was in the section of musical card and played the theme song.
