I, like Steph, have trouble remembering to close the door ever. Me, I even sometimes have trouble in other people's houses.
Of course, I have lived alone for a very long time (although having the cat sit on my lap whilst on the toilet is sort of weird!)
In my last apartment it was a while before I even noticed my setup made it hard for the door to close properly.
It's the alone in my home thing.

Yeah, you get so used to certain things. Like taking your shirt off when it's too warm - I've caught myself having the urge to do that in places that are not my own home. Fortunately I've never been so distracted as to not catch it in time.

This is me.
I find myself having to stop unzipping as I'm walking across the room toward the bathroom. I even did it in an office once...thank god, in the basement, far, far from anyone who might have seen. I mortified myself.
Years of living alone with my dog hermitude may not bode well for the new relationship.
How soon before you ask the big pee habit questions?

I did this, too. But, I was walking through the copy room. Thank God no one saw me because I was completely unzipped by the time I hit the bathroom. Didn't even register what I was doing until I got IN the bathroom.
Hazards of living alone for a long time, I guess. And, having a tiny bathroom. I never close the door. And, if I have company over and I actually do close it, my cat sits outside the door and cries until I let him in.
My pets also know no boundries. if I leave the door cracked, as I often do, I will end up with both the dog and the cat visiting as I take care of business.
My bathroom time=my cat's play time. He brings me toys to play fetch with. I guess I'm a captive audience at that point.
I leave the door open when I'm at home alone, but I've never had a problem forgetting to close it when I have company. I do tend to forget to clean behind the bathroom door since I rarely see it when it's closed.
Bartleby comes and puts his paws on my lap and gazes into my eyes...as if bathroom time is the best time for earnest conversation.

This!
