Buffy and Angel 1: BUFFYNANGLE4EVA!!!!!1!
Is it better the second time around? Or the third? Or tenth? This is the place to come when you have a burning desire to talk about an old episode that was just re-run.
Heh. And his unspoken "Antlers?" during her monologue.
That was great too. And in retrospect I like that scene even better than I did on airing, because it has Cordy—in her shallowest of the shallow phase—reacting to a wet and nearly naked Angel in exactly the same way that she would to a pimple-faced bellboy if she were checking into a hotel.
All time favorite is probably Giles listening to Tales, or his making tea, but otherwise these are my favorites.
Oz saying something like "actually, that explains a lot" when finding out that vampires are real. Also, his "who is that girl?" in Inca Mummy Girl.
Cordelia's goodbye to Wesley in "You're welcome".
Lorne's "Oh lord, don't go in there. That's where he keeps the full time Crazy."
When Buffy is standing guard over her mother's grave, alone, (waiting to see if Joyce arises as a vampire?), and Angel comes into frame behind her. Buffy reaches her hand back, and he grasps it.
One of the few moments in season 7 that I actually liked -- after Buffy and Xander rescue Willow from Gnarl, Willow is sitting on the bed meditating, trying to heal. Buffy climbs up on the bed, and offers her essence. "I've got so much strength I'm giving it away."
I am old school's Spike's Bitch.
As such, him bandaging Buffy's hands after her return from death. Golden. Him tossing her the knife in the snot monster episode -- magic. Him falling to his knees after she dies in The Gift.
Huh. I sound like a Spuffist. Still, he used to have quiet moments.
Oooh-- I want to add what ita said, plus the look on his face when he realized Buffy was alive.
Yes, that was a priceless look.
One of my favorite Wesley moments from BVTS is during "Doppelgangland" - he does this great startle in the school hallway.
I sound like a Spuffist.
Catching up - I realize a lot of my favorite HSQ/small moments are Spike-centered. And I am no Spuffist.
I was sure he was going to become human/get the chip out at the end
Grave
and fell off the couch when instead he got his soul.
I love the small moment when they are on the fake-date stakeout in
Crush
and he realizes he has opened the door for Buffy and tries to play it off.
My biggest Buffy HSQ though has got to be when Angel turned evil after the sex. I had just started watching - I was seven episodes in, I think, and was floored.
My biggest AtS HSQ is the much-mentioned Dru re-vamping Darla. The Angel Angst Meter hit eleventy million - so great.
A few other character small moments. Not so much character-revealing but more how-I-like-to-think-of-them.
Willow: I like it when Willow turns down Xander's offer to go the dance in
Prophecy Girl
because she doesn't want to be his second choice. I don't know if I would have done the same thing in high school with a boy I had such a huge crush on.
And I love it in
Lie to Me
when she can't lie to Buffy about her and Angel's suspicion of Ford.
Buffy: Are you drinking coffee again? 'Cause we've talked about this.
Willow: It makes me jumpy. I have to go. Away. (hurries off)
Ford: Nice girl!
Buffy: There aren't two of those in the world.
Cordy: I hate to be all Sidekick!Cordy Rules! But I love in the AtS premiere when she realizes Angel has arrived and tells Russell Winters he is so about to get his ass kicked. I also always love her "Pick up the pieces? Our job sucks!" in
Innocence.
Giles: I love Giles and Buffy one-on-one interactions. One I've mentioned before is in
Faith, Hope & Trick
when Giles starts talking about the Watchers' Retreat he wasn't invited to and Buffy walks out of the frame and walks back in looks up at him exasperated and he re-focuses ("Sorry... I digress."). I just love the role reversal of her being frustrated with him for being daydream-y when she is trying to figure out how to kill a big bad.
Dawn: Pose-able Dawnie in
Same Time, Same Place.
Xander: What if she vomits?
Dawn (very muffled): I won't vomit.
Buffy: Do you think she'll vomit?
Dawn (very muffled): Stop talking about vomit!
I giggle just thinking about it. I'm a Dawn fan. Don't know how I came to be one, but I am.
Dru: the teaser for
Lie To Me
is my favorite teaser EVAH and an excellent Drucilla moment. Almost her whole character and her relationship with Angel - right there.
Darla: I love crazypregnant!Darla trying to explain to the MOG that she can't do lamaz (Wes illustrating the breathing excercises: priceless) because she doesn't breathe then freaking out and crying.
I have been not watching my DVDs on purpose so I can do a both-show rewatch at some point and really want to see every episode. Doing this list and having to constantly refer to ep guides for titles makes me feel it's about due. Yay.
I'm showing my BufyNAngle4evah! roots, but:
Naked Angel eating ice cream in bed. The arm-sweep clearing the kitchen table. "I felt your heart. beat."
Angelus standing outside the window watching Willow and Buffy get the phone call from Giles about Jenny.
Angelus accosting Joyce in the driveway, pleading for her to intercede for him with Buffy.
"You had sex with Giles? On the hood of a police car? Twice?"
"If you're not too busy having sex with my mother!" (Bonk.)
"What's a stevedore?"
"How do you like my darkness now?"
Giles in the kitchen from Dead Man's Party.
Giles drinking scotch and listening to rock, remembering Joyce.
(Yes I know those two were already mentioned--still my favorites)
"Angel" exhaling smoke after he kills the woman in the alley after his moment of happiness.
Willow being Joan of Arc for Halloween because "she had a special relationship with God." Oz flipping his flannel shirt aside to reveal his nametag: "God".
Xander's slapfight with Vamp!Harmony.
"I can't breathe."
Okay, stopping. For now. Were ANY of those from Angel, besides the IWRY ones?
Ohhh, I lie, I have to add these:
BigWheel Spike and Angelus recruiting Dru to find out what Giles knew because "I don't want to be cleaning librarian out of the carpet." The whole scene where Dru seduces Giles into believing she's Jenny. Beautifully played.
The classic "love's bitch" scene--the whole thing, beginning with, "We killed a homeless man on that bench, on through "all slime and antlers," and Spike's immortal, "it's blood, children," speech, and Buffy and Angel's uncomfortable reception of the truths Spike was saying.
At which point, I found myself with a deadly blue woobie.
There's just no woobie quite like a fallen god.
Him falling to his knees after she dies in The Gift.
That was fantastic. My all time favorite Spike moment. He was a monster with no soul, and he was wracked with grief at Buffy's death.
