Zoe: Uh huh. River, honey? He's putting the hair away now. River: It'll still be there... waiting.

'Jaynestown'

Buffy and Angel 1: BUFFYNANGLE4EVA!!!!!1!

Is it better the second time around? Or the third? Or tenth? This is the place to come when you have a burning desire to talk about an old episode that was just re-run.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

I'm kinda bummed there's no way we'll make it to "Pangs" by next week.

Tonight's double header is Beet Bad and Room w/a Vu. Let's go.

Ha, I just realized I was mixing up "Rm w/ a Vu" and "Where the Wild Things Are." But I would love to watch a remake of "Beer Bad" that is all about evil beets.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Beer Bad also gave me the opportunity to explain "foamy." I do love passing on Buffista lore.

I can't remember the context but tonight at dinner A was talking about how great Oz is and specifically stated "Oz would never do anything wrong" and I agreed.

And then we watched Wild at Heart.

(We also watched Sense and Sensitivity, which, "Be a rainbow not a painbow" aside, has not aged well and it wasn't unproblematic in 1999 either.)

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I still think of Rm w/a Vu as the archetypical Angel episode, it's so much fun. And maybe the show's best spotlight for Cordy.

"Whoo! Cold wind—scary. What are you gonna do? Chap me to death?"

It's The Initiative - Aeryn noticed JM in the credits and was delighted, saying "it's time for Spike's redemption arc!"

I am saying NOTHING

The frat bros' trip down to Initiative Basement was a very satisfying reveal.

This is SUCH a good Willow episode. "A vague disclaimer is nobody's friend" followed by her comforting Spike after he fails to bite her? Top notch Willow, truly A+.

(Also, everything she predicts in her post-Oz funk about how Buffy/Riley is going to end? 100% correct.)

We watched "School Hard" tonight, and it's so satisfying to feel like the show is really hitting its stride now and setting some of the most crucial plot elements into motion. And of course I just love seeing Spike and Drusilla on my TV screen again.

Perfection.

I was well into my 40s when I watched Buffy. I can't help but wonder how I would have reacted to the show at a much younger age. More would have gone over my naive head at that age for sure! But I know the love would still have been there.

We watched "Inca Mummy Girl" tonight. Not the show's most creative title, or concept for that matter: What if we mashed up "Teacher's Pet" and "The Pack" but made it South American this time??

Gotta say, one of the hardest things for me on a rewatch, 20+ years on and knowing what we now know about Joss, is how gross so much of Xander's behavior is. He frequently acts super possessive with Buffy, and when the girl he likes in this episode tells him through tears that she doesn't deserve him, he doesn't tell her how wrong she is; it actually seems to make him happy to hear her say that. Ick.

"I like how every so often, Willow's just wearing a hat"
