We have turned the corner and started S4/AtS S1 last night. S4 is such a culture shock it's almost like starting two completely new shows.
I had forgotten how much I love the Angel theme music. And also how INTENSELY pulpy AtS was in the early days. SMASH CUT TO THE LIBRARY! WE'RE GONNA RESEARCH THE SHIT OUT OF THIS CASE BECAUSE THIS IS A DETECTIVE AGENCY SHOW! BROOD! BROOD HARDER!
I remember someone saying (here, maybe?) that "It doesn't make even the slightest attempt to not be Batman."
I mean, the very first thing Doyle says is calling Angel's apartment the Batcave, so.
Remember when Angel used a grappling hook gun in one of the early episodes?
This happened last night in
Lonely Hearts
(ep2)!
Which also contains an explicit reference to the bat signal and a subplot where the vigilante main character who is never seen during the day and wears an extremely dramatic cape coat strikes up a tentative alliance with a police officer. SUCH SUBTLETY.
(I love it so much. Oh AtS I'm so glad I decided to rewatch you.)
Sense and Sensitivity
has REALLY not aged well. Go on, act surprised. (Not that it was a top-tier ep the first time around, but against the backdrop of today's real world...yikes.)
I thought for a second you were talking about Sense and Sensibility, and I was prepared to defend Emma Thompson and Ang Lee with my life.
Sense and Sensitivity has REALLY not aged well. Go on, act surprised.
But it did give us "Be a rainbow, not a PAINbow," so that's something.
I had almost completely forgotten about Kate.
But it did give us "Be a rainbow, not a PAINbow," so that's something.
That line is the only non-cringeworthy moment in the entire ep.
