Boxed Set, Vol. II: "It's a Cookbook...A Cookbook!!"
A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
Hey Colin! I just finished watching the first episode, and I really enjoyed it. I don't suppose you have any idea why it's called A Town Called Eureka over here (Britain) and just plain Eureka for you guys, do you?
Also, yay on the ratings! Here's hoping we get to keep watching...
I DO actually!
I ran into Ben at comic con. He represents SKY in the US and he says that the BBC already has a science show called Eureka and they didn't want any confusion. So they changed it.
I know I don't type well all the time. Apologies. (ramifications, have, and others)
Hi Colin!
So, when you're walking around inside S.A.R.A.H., is there someone offside actually reading the lines as your house? Or are you just talking to the ether?
edited to add: I should have started by saying that I've been enjoying the show, and I've gotten my 66 year-old mother hooked too, so we're crossing demographics for you.
He represents SKY in the US and he says that the BBC already has a science show called Eureka and they didn't want any confusion.
Ah! And sense is made! Although I don't think I've ever heard of that science show.
(Apologizes for bad spelling: definitely Our Kind of Person.)
I do the rest of the scene to a piece of tape stuck to a stand.
I know actors have to do this a lot these days, but the stories never cease to make me crack up. Scrappy tells of this one thing she got to look at, where it was Lorenzo Lamas shooting balefully at something, and cut to the something, and the unfinished effect was a bunch of incredibly bored grips hanging a tennis ball. Or was it a cardboard cut-out of a dinosaur? Anyway, it was Lorenzo Lamas looking baleful, which is the funny part.
(The finished product did have CGI dinosaurs.)
The show is (I'm told) a "let's find out what makes thing tick" sort of show with an energetic host.
And yeah, Salli's stand-in Christine usually reads Sarah's lines. Alexandra (script superisor) reads other times but when we're in the Smart House, video village is outside the set so can't hear her very well.
Video village is where the 10 000 dolllar monitors are for the HD cameras. It's a bit of a set up so they need space where they won't have to move it. Hence it's outside the set.
Christine would do an impression of Fargo doing an impression of a woman.
In the second ep. "Many Hapy Returns", the opening "Obi Wan you're my only hope" type hologram of the late Mr. and Mrs. Perkins was a stand with a tennis ball on it.
But our Vis fx guy Simon was shockingly articulate. He always knew exactly what he was doing.
It got hard in Primal, but I'll talk about that later.
Her turning into a pumpkin is sort of what it feels like when they pull the plug while you're shooting.
It sounds like working with a union orchestra.
I have to say, the mouthbreather from Wonderfalls being the voice of the house cracks me up.
How many episodes have you done? You're not all done, right?
Yeah, we wrapped July 14th.
I'm still doing a lot of press and ADR (looping). I got a big session of ADR For Friday - always makes me nervous.
And we're trying to setup some east coast morning shows for the next couple of weeks. It's a lot of work still.
