The "Merry Lexmas" episode was REALLY good. I think because it focused on Lex for the A story and the rather silly B-story was where they put Clark.
I wouldn't go so far as to say "REALLY good," especially because I think the silly B-story
really
bogged down the fairly interesting A story. It was so unbearably cheesy. And the A story bugged me because I couldn't get over the idea of Lex and Lana together. I mean, they've played with the idea in the past, but it never felt like a real thing. And I kept waiting for them to show Clark married to Lois, just for kicks.
Also, I loved the decision he made at the end -- it was really the only one he could have made given his future, but it so goes against all those Xmas Redemption stories - A Christmas Carol, It's a Wonderful Life, etc. -- it was very satisfying.
I really liked that too. For a second there, I was very worried as to what they were going to do because I knew what the point was, but Lex tried to fake me out at first with this "happily ever after" bit. I love his fucked-up twist.
And his dead mother being the spectre of his ambition was pretty cool.
And in addition to Lex making the (necessary) but non-redemptive choice, in his visions: Lana dies, thus giving the viewers a little Christmas present too.
Maybe NOT having that ten minutes that the show was interrupted in the middle in Chicago for news of the plane that skidded off the runway and hit two cars actually made the episode tighter.
The Lex/Lana thing didn't bother me because I've been picking up that vibe from Lex since season 1, when it was rather squicky (early 20-something Lex vs. 14-year old Lana) so I wasn't surprised in the slightest that Lex would dream about that.
Plus, I get my universes all confused. I know in the DCAU, Lex and Lana dated for awhile and in the comicverse, I believe she's married to Pete Ross, who is also Lex's VP.
From an interview with Summer Glau:
You’ve just finished filming a new movie called Mammoth and I know your fans are all very excited to see it and I was wondering if you could tell us a little bit more about it?
It’s a Sci-fi/Comedy .It’s hilarious – I laughed my guts out during the movie! I play a normal teenage girl, which is nice! I play a really cool teenage girl whose father is a palaeontologist who works in a mammoth exhibit at a museum in Louisiana. It’s a very very funny film. We shot it in Romania and it’s going to be great. It’s going to be shown on the Sci-Fi channel. The director Tim Cox was awesome and the cast was wonderful to work with.
Anyone else think that there will be mammoths rampaging in Louisiana? (In the movie.)
Have they done sabertooth tigers yet?
Another Smallville thought...Clark just broke into a bunch of houses. Isn't anyone going to freak out at that? Or does Santa really normally deliver them all magically?
Well, Santa supposedly comes down the chimney. How many of us have chimneys now?
I suppose that he apparates in and then disapparates to leave. Or perhaps he just makes the presents apparate. . . yes, that's much more efficient.
