And, whether there was or not, there's an icon-adaptation problem -- who cares? If you're going to lose the people who know as much as "Some radiation thing, and now he goes green and stupid when he gets angry" while pleasing the fanboys, you're not making your money back.
I don't think the Hulk is a complicated character. If you're going to dress him up, make it easy.
Was there all this incredibly complicated backstory to Bruce and the scientist chick and their fathers in the comic book?
In the original comic, Banner is head scientist on a gamma bomb project overseen by General Ross. Betty Ross and Bruce start falling in love in the first issue.
I'm about halfway though Hulk, and I'm bored silly. Does interesting stuff happen in the rest of the movie? Any decent special effects?
Um. I think he smashes a lot of stuff.
Well yeah, I figured that. But does he smash stuff in interesting ways? Any pretty explosions?
I just don't give a damn about any of these characters....
The last 20 minutes are interesting, in the sense that they appear to be from a completely different movie.
I remember being not as entertained by the smashing as I'd hoped.

I just remember finding the movie really bad and boreing.....
I think once the scene with Betty confronting the Hulk in SF is over, it's best to change channels and watch something more entertaining and sensical. Like Lost Highway.
I actually really liked Hulk and didn't see why everyone ragged on it so much.
