Arrrgh. I have plunged into BSG and now I am playing catch-up. For instacne, back before Boomer was a known Cylon, was she seeing both the Chief and Helo? If not, why was the Chief saying he loved her?

There was a Boomer on Galactica, involved with the Chief, and a Boomer on Caprica, who became involved with Helo. The Boomer on Galactica shot Adama.

No. Glactica!Boomer was seeing the Chief. Then after Helo got stranded on Caprica, a different Boomer showed up there with the plan to seduce him and make a Cylon/Human lovechild. This is the Boomer we're seeing now, but there are others.

Galactica!Boomer and the Chief were carrying on a secret affair (secret because it was against regs). Helo apparently had feelings for her going way back. After Helo was left behind on Caprica, a second Boomer who had never been on Galactica but had all the memories of the other Boomer came "back" to "rescue" him, and now they're in love and Galactica!Boomer is dead and the Chief is sad and confused and needs a hug.

I didn't pay close attention to the mini, but since the beginning of the series, there were the two of them. Helo believed he and Boomer were stranded together on Caprica. And then they had sex.
