And you're sure this isn't just some fanboy thing? 'Cause I've fought more than a couple pimply, overweight vamps that called themselves Lestat.

Boxed Set, Vol. II: "It's a Cookbook...A Cookbook!!"

A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Anyone who owns the Due South dvds can contradict me, because I speak only from secondhand. But everyone who's bought them complains that they're badly packaged, with no extras, and expensive, unless you buy them from our neighbors to the north.

That's what I keep hearing. I really want to get the third season, but jeez. Someone was going to send me tapes at one point, but that fell through so I've been hoping to go the DVD route. Have to wait a while longer I guess to see more than the two or three eps I've seen from the CKR era.

If I only had a brain...

I'm trying to suss out names on Farscape; I can't figure the pattern.

Ka D'Argo -- always D'Argo, never Ka.
Aeryn Sun -- Aeryn to her friends, "Officer Sun" to Pilot, who is polite, and to Peacekeepers, who aren't.
John Crichton -- Crichton to everybody
Chiana, Rygel, Zhaan -- one name, avoid the issue entirely.

I could write this all off to alien customs except that Crichton presumably goes by John all the time at home.

Comments?

Actually, D'Argo starts to refer to Crichton as John quite a bit. So does Scorpy, now that I think about it.

Conservative, n. A statesman who is enamored of existing evils, as distinguished from the Liberal, who wishes to replace them with others. -Bierce

I think Ka may be an honorific, sort of a Mr. for Luxans.

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

Doesn't Pilot call John "Commander" in the early episodes?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

If you're looking for a pattern, I wouldn't try and find one across species.

Also -- Officer Sun may not be an issue of politeness. It's a military thing. Rank is important.

Good point. Pilot tends toward formality. There was one big moment in which Pilot said "Officer Sun... Aeryn..."

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

It becomes clear later on that native-born Peacekeepers are matronymic. Which makes no sense, having 50 officers Sun in the fleet, but whatev.

For a long time, maybe into S3, Pilot called Crichton by his title (Commander) as well -- Pilot is just a polite guy. I don't know why nobody picked up his familiar name for 2-3 years, but they didn't, until they suddenly did.

Except that Aeryn doesn't actually have any rank nowadays, being under sentence of death and all.

Does anybody first-name Crais?

Another thought - does Harvey call Crichton ANYTHING but John?
