Some Ancient devised a way to transmit whole minds through subspace at a much lower energy cost, thus making continued communication possible. Later, the Ori ascension research succeeded and they had a falling out with their fellow ascended Ancients. They could now easily power intergalactic stargates by force of will, but the Ancients put up a big Somebody Else's Problem field around the Milky Way to keep the preachy cousins from finding it again. The Ori get distracted sucking all the fun out of the non-ascended humans in their own neighborhood and forget about their ancestral homeland until Daniel and Vala pop up to remind them. t /fanwank

That's a nice wank. I don't get the "why" of keeping communications open between the galaxies, but am willing to be convinced.
There are lots of things I don't really get about the Ancients.
And Ori is a stupid spelling. Even Orii would be better.

I go by Gateworld's spelling, on the theory that you've gotta run with someone, and they're going with Ori. So I'm sticking with that until proven otherwise.
