God, I'm so tired of Jaffa politics

Seriously, I wondered whether RDA and MS were actually in the same room for filming their scene. Really unsatisfactory.

Yeah, they were. They leave the room together at the end, and you see both faces.

Hmmm. Depressingly, I'm finding SGA less than compelling viewing. I think I sprained something with the handwaving, but that shouldn't really matter to me so much, surely? Because there was plenty of handwaving in BtVS, wasn't there? And yet it owned my ass.

But it's so - it's very like Star Trek. Or even Galaxy Quest. And one of the things I loved most about BtVS and AtS was the story telling, and the juxtaposition of mundane (although all things Californian are automatically shiny and foreign to me, but still) and heroic. It's ... I'm not saying this well. But I'm really not suspending disbelief yet. I'm charmed by some of the characters, but I don't care about what they're doing, because it seems - dumb. And predictable. And the Wraith are just...silly.

It hasn't captured my imagination or affections in the way that BSG did, or even Carnivale. Never mind the Whedonverse things. This is sad-making. I think I may stick to the fanfic, which involves much less handwaving.

Maybe I just need to shift my assumptions about what the show's going to be, though. It's more of a drinking game kind of show, more of a Smallville kind of show. Hmm. If I think of it as a Smallville kind of show, in terms of silly plots and handwaving... yeah, that might work. My love for Smallville does not hinge upon any suspension of disbelief, or upon the quality of the writing. And, okay, SGA doesn't have Clex, but it's got lots of snark. And John and Rodney are adorable, and Ford is very sweet, and I'm quite fond of Teyla and Elizabeth. Hmm. Yes, this might work.

On the other hand, I just watched the first episode of House, and loved it to pieces. And, sweet weeping mother of God, nothing prepared me for the textiness of the House/Wilson slash. Even the dying patient was slashing them!

...decisions, decisions. Do I watch another episode of House, or try the first episode of Veronica Mars...

House is fun, but settles into its formula very quickly. Veronica Mars has more puzzles, and more things to keep track of.

Fay, where are you in your SGA viewing. It's definitly not up there with BTVS, but it does get better.

How far along are you in SGA, Fay? I was pretty much in the same place you were before the S1 break, but the back half of the season was, to me, noticibly better (with one exception), and they were, generally, being less dumb if I remember right. And I thought the final two eps of the season were really quite good given that... it's the Wraith. So, you know, stick it out if you can. (Or, if you've already seen the whole season, ignore what I just said!) But no, it's not My Show in the way the Whedonverse Three and BSG are my shows. Or like SG-1 is my show. But I adore the characters, and that makes it work for me.

But it's so - it's very like Star Trek.

Then again, Star Trek TOS, DS9, and TNG were all beloved by me, too (though TOS and DS9 stand up better on rewatch than TNG. Again, to me.)

Apollo, in addition to Tyrol, is making me so happy these days. Bitter, snarky Apollo - I adore. I missed seeing Starbuck and Helo this ep. I don't think it detracted from the ep - I just missed seeing them.

I'm watching the second ep of House now, and liking it a lot (House is much like Snape, imho, in terms of being a clever asshole who's less misanthropic than one might think). Going to choose Veronica Mars next, though.

Askye - I've watched up to Childhood's End on SGA. I've made two attempts to watch Poisoning the Well and found myself just not giving that much of a damn, an ddoing something else instead.

Hugh Laurie. Bless. How's his American accent, btw? If one didn't know he was British, would it be horribly obvious? I hope not. I mean, obviously I buy it, but I would. I'm very endeared by the fact that both Hugh and Robert have worked with Emma Thompson.

SGA - The Storm and The Eye are where it really picks up.

Hugh Laurie's accent is fantastic. I wouldn't be able to tell if I didn't know.
