Boxed Set, Vol. II: "It's a Cookbook...A Cookbook!!"

A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

Our wings are not tired

People seem to die a lot?

But we know that they can't lose more than 48,000 random extras. It's nice that there's a built in limit in the opening credits.

That makes me think, should they be changing that bit each episode when people get killed? That would be a kinda cool and morbid bit in the opening credits.

Also, it's odd that SG-1 and SGA have the super short opening credits now.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

They are. The number was 47,874 last night instead of 47,875 last week since we've lost that red shirt guy in Kobol last week. I'm now morbidly curious about the opening credit next week to see just how many people we lost in this episode because... wow. It was a fucking massacre.

New music on BSG. I liked the piano piece Starbuck played at her place, but it felt kind of instrusive at the end when it was repeated. Interesting insight into her character though, this revelation of her as an artist. Yay backstory!

But sometimes they don't die! They just make you worried that they died.

This very thing. It's really pretty impressive.

That makes me think, should they be changing that bit each episode when people get killed? That would be a kinda cool and morbid bit in the opening credits.

I had pretty much the same thought, and I'm checking next week to see if they change it look what happens when you miss a post before hitting Post.

tiggy, the only thing about BSG for me was that it took a little while to warm to some of the characters, but it's been completely worth it. And the story had me the whole time, particularly starting with the S1 pilot (the mini, while fine, didn't grab me the way the pilot ep did).

ETA: Did anyone get a handle on how many Cylons were on board? It didn't seem like that many, which is, of course, scarier.

Art Crawl!!!

It wasn't very many -- just what could have fit in that one ship that crashed into the Galactica.

Did the fighter pilot played by EJO's son die? (Hotdog, I think.)

And I must admit, that everytime one of the little groups of people came across a lone survivor in a room with a bunch of bodies -- I wondered if that person was really a cylon. I guess we will know eventually.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

tiggy - make sure you see the Miniseries first. I foolishly (!) bought a box set in the airport on the basis that it was Season 1, and thus should be BSG from the beginning, right? Wrong. Picture the baffled expression on my face, and that of my flatmate, as Episode 1, Season 1 starts with a superfast 'previously on BSG'.

Hmph.

thanks, Fay. i was just about to ask if i have to see the mini to understand what's going on in the first season.

people on my flist are trying to reassure me that spoilery for Dr Who the new doctor, david tennant, is also an amazing actor. i also realize that CE was the ninth incarnation of this particular role and this is par for the course, but having never seen any of the others i just don't know if anyone will live up to CE. he was the show for me.

i'll wait to reserve judgement until i've seen DT in action, but i don't see me loving him as much as i love CE.

as for BSG, are there any zombie episodes i should know about?

I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

Re: SG1 - I'm gathering, from reading PegB, that Daniel canonically grew up in Egypt. Is this so?

No, that's just extremely popular fanon as far as I know. His parents were both Egyptologists, before the unfortunate squishing incident.

...the unfortunate squishing incident?

::mind boggles::

Damn. I'm sorry it's not canon. Still...

(tiggy, I've not seen any of the new Who, but I grew up in the whole hiding-behind-the-sofa-from-the-daleks generation. I watched from Tom Baker onwards, and I think Tom Baker is probably my default Who. Hmm. Is the new Who available on DVD yet? 'Cause that would be fun...)

Fay, i'm not sure. we USians don't even get it on tv here. i had to be naughty to see it. sci-fi stupidly passed on the rights to air it. i'd love to see it in better quality. so i'm hoping one of these days someone here will wise up.

...just checked out Amazon, and I guess that's a no. Hmm.

...somebody tell me it's a bad idea to buy complete seasons of SG1, Buffy, X Files, Babylon 5 etc etc from China off ebay...
