A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

Bag the crypto. Say what is on your mind.

Holy Aphrodite! I just scanned through the post since Friday and have come to a horrid realization.

People, on balance, are not liking Battle Star Galactica. I must not be people.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

That's crazy talk!

Eh. I think it is The New Cool Show. And it's got a lot of strength still in front of it. Some folks won't like it, but I have every reason to believe it'll find it's audience and will develop.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Huh. A majority dislike of BSG is not what I got when I read the thread, but even if so -- what difference does it make?

I know tons of people who adore BSG. I like it well enough, but I don't love it; it doesn't have enough humor for me, and the anthropology makes no sense. But I recognize that it's very smart and well-written in many ways.

But Hec's right: BSG is the Cool New Thing. Atlantis may be as popular in slashy fannish circles, but BSG is getting the critical raves.

I scanned quickly. Maybe I mostly tuned in on the "turn the sound off" BSG posts and noted that SG stuff seemed more numerous.

Wait, no "maybe" about it. That is what I did.

CocoaPuffs:On a re-read, the anti BSG comments seem to be around the lack of linguistic coloratura. It is true that most of the sentences are short declaratives, consisting of either phlebotinum or other exposition.

Still, I get a clear sense of character. Maybe that is all in the choice of players.

I must not be people either. I love the show and am totally addicted to it. SG1 is another of my total faves, and Aquarium is still pulling up in third place for me, though I do still like it quite a lot.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

While I can objectively see things about BSG that qualify it as the better show, it just barely manages to capture any attention from me each week, whereas I find SG-1 pretty enjoyable and have really gottten into Aquarium. I suspect my contempt for pretty much every character except Rosalin is a barrier to me really enjoying the show.
