How to Make MarySues:
Dry Ingredients:
1 head of luxurious waving flame-colored tresses
2 too-large-for-fashion, I-regret-that-they-are-too-large, MyLord! firm, rosy-tipped breasts
2 firm-from-riding-wild-talking-stallions legs
2 large, lambent, discerning, desirous amythest eyes
1 serious sense of adventure (unleavened by common sense)
Wet Ingredients:
A sloppy helping of helpless charm
1 tight, pulsating womanhood, moistened by the merest glimpse from the hero's ebon-dark evil eyes
1 heaping handful of Purportedly Spicy Brains
4 pounds of My Lady's Multiple O's, despite the presence of...
1 glistening perfect cherry
Stir briskly with the Beaters of Slick Love, adding a pinch of FeistySpice, and a soupcon of Mi8ken ID for flavor. Bake at the heat of WhiteHot Passion for 3 hours, and serve with 2 Candied Eyes, rolled.

The gravel road was a dark gray shadow against the dense growth of scavvy and palm trees. I stubbed my toes on the uneven surface trying to keep pace with Chuck and CJ. While stealth wasn’t necessary at this point, it added to the adrenaline rush making my heart trip uneasily. It wasn’t too late to back out.
Two hot boys, lots of beer and a landrover stolen from the Royal Marines; a recipe for disaster if there ever was one. That was my thought two weeks later when I was standing in front of the C.O. during Captain’s Mast.

Hah! real bite in that one, and makes me laugh too.
Question: when someone compliments a work by you and likes it more than you do, do you ever have to bite your tongue in order to just say "thank you" rather than correct them?
That is: is your impulse to to correct them and say "no it is really not all that - has the following flaws".
Bite your tongue till it bleeds. Kill the impulse to self-criticize for an audience. It only makes people feel you're either fishing for compliments or that you think they're stupid.
IOW, why, yes, I know just what you mean.
