Because books.

Ugh. I have to write jacket copy again today. The heroine? A Lycanthrope Queen (which apparently means a kind of cat person in this universe) named Siena (unrelated to the other female character in this series named Cinnamon). And she's a virgin. Of course. And she's tawny and gold and cat-featured and ...

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Not having has never been the thing I've regretted most in my life. Not trying is.

Here KittySue, here Kittysue.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

AmyLiz, is that *really* worse than BIG SPANKABLE ASSES?

(Also, I should be going to the Post Office tomorrow, so I'll mail Carrie's Story to you then.)

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

The heroine? A Lycanthrope Queen (which apparently means a kind of cat person in this universe) named Siena

Are they unclear on what exactly lycanthropy means?? Derived from "lycos", meaning wolf! Oy vey.

(unrelated to the other female character in this series named Cinnamon).

This is the one that made all the baby gods in all the baby pantheons cry, right? (Except for Zeus, b/c he's a slut like that....)

sends gallons of Fernet to AmyLiz

Because books.

Well, no, it's not worse than Big Spankable Asses. Although in the end, I don't know if I mentioned it, there was precious little actual *spanking* in the goddamn book. Made focusing on tender pink asses a bit tough when writing the copy...

And thanks! I'll keep my eyes out for it.

This is the one that made all the baby gods in all the baby pantheons cry, right? (Except for Zeus, b/c he's a slut like that....)

Uh huh. And only the third in a series of SEVEN. And I'm pretty sure I'll be doing the copy for all of them.

::swigs Fernet too fast. passes out::

::doesn't mind at all::

move out and draw fire

Fernet is the only rational choice, AL. And besides, will help with the jacket copy.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

You might be safer to write the copy while passed out. Good grief, how can that be real? How can that get published anywhere off the Internet? Why am I not published? Hell, I can write utter drek, too.

No, I can't. I thought I could, but that has surpassed all my previous definitions of "drek". KittySue, indeed.

The hell with it. I'll never be published. I have a modicum of skill and talent, but the people writing KittySue stories have the energy and the drive, and they win.

Not that I'm bitter or anything.

Because books.

Zenkitty, I will say this -- the editor who bought this series has NO experience with sci-fi or paranormal stuff, but was sort of nudged onto the bandwagon because of the demands of the market. If I had still be working there when she bought this, I would have gently told her that KittySue was a bad idea.

That said, who knows if the series will sell well? The first two books are out, and while I've heard some bad reactions I don't know what sales are like. And I'm not sure if the vast majority of romance readers (i.e. a bit older, not necessarily 'Net-savvy) would understand who derivative this series is, or if (like some of the fanfic writers) they would really respond to the fantasy.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

I would bet that enough people will respond to the fantasy to keep it selling well enough.

It's not that there's anything really wrong with publishing a fantasy. It's just that I'm jealous - I want someone to publish my fantasies! Preferably without my having to actually, you know, write them down. No one to blame but myself.
