Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Damn, erika. That hurts.

Oh Erika. That's one powerful piece of writing.

Always Anti-fascist!

Thanks, all. Not bad for somebody who thought she lost her mojo, I suppose.

(I know, I know...it's been ages. I'm rusty.)

Escape

The craftiest prisons disguise themselves. Alcatraz is an island in the San Francisco Bay. Guantanamo Bay is a tropical paradise. These are the jails we never suspect.

My house sat on ten acres of land in the middle of the state forest. It had a lovely curved porch with ceiling fans and a landscaped garden. The office had vaulted ceilings and four skylights; a television with Tivo and overflowing bookcases. The rooms hid their bars well.

Every night I worked at the walls of my cell in secret: one inch at a time through the glowing screen of my laptop.

It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

Kristin, DAMN.

Because books.

You all are rocking today.

erika, that last line was a gut punch. Really good.

Kristin, same with yours.

I, on the other hand, am back to writing cover copy and wanting to bang my head against my desk repeatedly.

GS: If you had to choose between kicking evil in the head or the behind, which would you choose, and why? Minsc: I'm not sure I understand the question. I have two feet, do I not? You do not take a small plate when the feast of evil welcomes seconds.

Seeing the two very excellent drabbles posted after mine, prompts me to ask an etiquette question, of sorts. Is it okay to post silly, meaningless stuff like I did? This isn't an "I wanna play too" sort of thing, but rather an "Am I stepping in the guacamole" thing, to borrow a concept (Allyson, I think?) brought up awhile back elsewhere. Everyone posts such wonderful, personal stuff and then I let loose once in a blue moon with crap about kids playing D&D and it feels a little flippant or even callous in comparison. I mean, I know others have posted some "silly" stuff from time to time, but they mix it up with the poignant as well.

Because books.

Kalshane, absolutely you can post whatever kind of drabble you'd like. I liked yours, too -- the switch to D&D made me laugh.

No rules, just writing.

What AmyLiz said, Kalshane. No worries. (You should see some of the "blue" drabbles we did awhile back--there were some very silly ones, IIRC.)

Escape

This week, he’s grounded. His life is a no-fly zone, wings clipped, engine stalled – “Pick a metaphor, Mom, I got it.”

It’s not fair, because it’s summer. So he missed curfew. Big deal. It’s not like he wasn’t going to come home eventually.

But he dreams of that. He’s almost fifteen – he could do it. A room somewhere, his skateboard, his iPod, maybe a job at Mickey D’s for cash. No school. No way. That’s grounding all week long, nine months of the year.

He’s got nowhere to go. So he crawls back into bed. Sleep is an escape, too.
