Gavin, ask yourself this question. What are you more afraid of, a giant murderous demon or me?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

I work in a major university library, and believe you me, the back end computing systems are fiendishly complicated. We completely changed computer systems last July and many things are still doing the wacky (though in our case, ILL was not affected). I am sure your DH is right.

OK. Instead of ranting about the Seattle library, I'll reflect on my good fortune that I have the county system as a backup.

Those who know Amy, go and congratulate here. The hidebound Utah State Legislature approved medical licensing for direct entry midwives. Amy's gonna take herself back to school.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Oh, hooray. One of my good friends is a midwife in B.C.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Great news, for Utah in general and Amy in particular.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

That's great, Connie. I know she had a lot invested in that debate.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

For Hec, lexine, and other baseball peeps, it's the Generic Spring Training report article!

Heh. The A's have been talking up the "situational hitting" thing this spring training. Considering they never, ever hit-and-run, nor bunt, it's funny.

I have no rants to share today. Though I am on the hook for a fair amount of work that needs to be finished before I can leave.

It was pulled as of last night, after having been gutted, but the sponsor resubmitted this morning (probably about 2 AM or something, considering how the last days of the session are always madhouses here), and it got passed. Amy's especially pleased at the final addition of a requirement to submit all outcome data to a federal database. The state thinks that will prove midwives are incompetent, the midwives know it'll prove that home births are safe.

What is even happening?

My birthday is tomorrow, but thanks -t, and beth, and anyone I missed. Today is my m-i-l's birthday, would be my dad's birthday and his late twin's, and is the 15th anniversary of their father's death, and I've already morbidedlymorosed all over my lj, so um...tah dah!

Connie, that's great news for amy!

Teppy, your boss is being a jackhole. Good for you, for standing your ground. Also? Insent.

My phone is dead. I called the phone company (on the cell phone I hate to have except for times like these). They think it's probably their problem, but won't know 'til they come out. Because I'm not a completely housebound person who can just sit here without moving from 12pm to 9pm, they have to wait til Saturday to come out. Before I got off the phone with the customer service agent (who was very nice, and I've been a customer service agent and will say freely that most of them suck and blow, because it's a shitty job and their higher-ups don't give them the control they need to do their jobs well) she told me to go outside and check the little phone company box, which has a jack inside it, and plug my landline into it.

It (and my electrical meter) are completely encased in ice. I think we've found the problem.

So um, will my phone service get restored in July?

I should be renewing my license today--because I technically have the "time" to do so, but I'm going to wait until tomorrow--the very last minute. And if there's some upheaval in our schedule that prevents me from doing so, I am going to let it lapse and refuse to leave the house ever again. That's a take charge attitude, right?
