If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Checking my bedspread for the missing leash which, since the dog is here, I have to assume made it home with us this morning.

Dang.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Anyone miss me?

meara has a new tag.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Hi meara!

I've lost and found my keys like that way too many times for me to count.

I'm still feeling vaguely sick. I'm not sure if it's remnants of the migraine I had last week, or something different, or what, but it's annoying -- kind of just feeling generally blah, but no particular symptom I can point to as "this is the problem."

Emily, your tag is cracking me up.

Yay! I like it.

Meara, are you still around?

OK, catching up today, if not for the whole week:

Yay, Cashmere's mom getting through surgery!

He put a heart sticker on the town where I live and a heart sticker on the town where he lives and a red ribbon connecting the two (we live about 50 miles apart). Then, he wrote "Two hearts know no distance." underneath the map and framed it up all pretty.

Aww. That's supersweet. Pardon me while I hate you a little. :)

I blame my brain because I KNOW about the evil Hallmark dudes and what they're up to but I still get sad about being ALONE FOREVER!

Yeah, I was feeling lonesome and horny all weekend--I don't need Valentine's Day to make me feel WORSE!!!

and a series of four rhymed haikus due on Wednesday

RHYMED haikus? Isn't that kinda non-haikuish??

And Em! I am still here. All week, supposedly!

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Happy Valentine's day everyone!

Happy Anniversary, Deena and Greg!

I'm glad your mom is doing well, Cashmere.

I can't believe how lucky Mom is. It was her bronchitis that caused the chest pains that led to them testing her heart. Her surgeon told us today that the location and the size of the blockage in the main artery would have made any heart attack "an unsurvivable event". So she wouldn't have gotten an easier warning sign. Those words give me chills. But all is well and she should be MUCH MUCH better now.

The same thing happened to my mom. When she first semi-retired, she took the time to do things like go to the urologist to see if he could figure out why she was getting so many UTIs. They never did figure that one out, but they found a cancerous tumor that at that moment was still contained completely within one kidney, but had already gotten pretty large and spready.

Also, it's been a long ass day, but a good one, and I am home, and waiting for pizza.

If I only had a brain...

Meara, I found an online article about Vesta Tilley. Did you know about her? She was an early drag king --her stage act was being a guy. She patronized the best tailors in London.

Always Anti-fascist!

Wow, I can't imagine thinking "Thank Heavens for those bladder infections." But I bet she is. My phone isn't having a dial tone right now, but the other line works.I thought this was a calm day! Wonder how long it's been out.
