Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Aww, vw. Remember, feeling defeated is not being defeated. As far as I can tell, you and Hil are the same about academia--you both are always convinced you are going to do much much worse on things like papers and exams and getting work done then you ever actually do. Both of you are pretty much academic stars, if one looks at your work objectively, and I am sure your profs love having you in class.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

In the Pines is a fantastic tape, except some how I lost mine.

the hardest to learn / was the least complicated

The Black Canary one.

Right. Okay, I'll get on it.

You are SWELL.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

NOTHING CAN DEFEAT THE PENIS!

Okay, so not exactly appropriate to vw's sitch, but it brings on the laughing.

Mostly lurking...

vw, what has you feeling defeated, baby?

Just SO much to do. I'd feel a little better if these incompletes were done, but the one I'm working on is just taking me so much longer than I had anticipated, and it's got me frustrated. I need to let it go, but I also need to just get it done. I ran into the prof today, and I promised her I'd e-mail it by Wednesday.

But, I also have a critical response and a series of four rhymed haikus due on Wednesday...plus about 200 pages to read of The Dollmaker.

Plus, I'm already obsessing about the last incomplete I need to finish. Really, the scope of the project is WAY bigger than what it should be, and I get overwhelmed even thinking about trying to bring it down. This needs to just wait till I get to it, but when I start getting overwhelmed, it's hard to put things in boxes and set them aside. I just stack 'em all up to make it worse. At least I know this.

Both of you are pretty much academic stars, if one looks at your work objectively, and I am sure your profs love having you in class.

Thank you, Robin. I know at least one of my profs really likes me and my work already, so that does help.

Okay, so not exactly appropriate to vw's sitch, but it brings on the laughing.

Yes it did! Thank you :)

What is even happening?

Maybe if you break it into chunks? The last incomplete needs to go on the back burner until this project and the poems are done.

This needs to just wait till I get to it, but when I start getting overwhelmed, it's hard to put things in boxes and set them aside.

Write it down, and put the piece of paper in a cupboard, one over/near the stove, if possible--or maybe in the freezer. I'm serious. Think of it as putting in on a back burner.

Give yourself permission to get a B on the paper you're working on, now. Then sit down, and finish a B paper. Do you want to talk through your premise. I know it's about message boards, and that you surveyed Bronzers and Buffistas. Did you get enough reponses? What is the main idea you're trying to convey?
