Mmm, thanks, kat. Good calls all around. But seriously, my apartment is gross even for me right now, much less parents.

I have plans! I'm getting together with some TWoPers for wings and Constantine.
I want to see Constantine as well. I have great Keanu love (excepting when he's horribly miscast as Prince John, but I fault Kenneth Branagh for that) and not being at all familiar with the source material, it looks to be a rollicking fun time rather than a pale imitation of the comic.
But seriously, my apartment is gross even for me right now, much less parents.
I hear you. We'll actually be partners in apartment cleaning today. But there's always the socks. Buy new socks.
You may have a point. The description of Constantine enraged me because it is so unfaithful not only to the letter, but the spirit of the comic. But in all fairness a movie should be judged on it's own terms; I should think about it as a movie whose characters happens to have the same names as characters in a work of literature I enjoy. I guess it does not help me that I have never like Keanu as an actor when he talked - he has great body language, but to me no ability to deliver dialog.

When you're an adaptation, I think the source material is one of those terms, though.
You have point too. I'm easily swayed this morning.
See, if I am familiar with the source material, then I have to side with ita. I expect the movie to make some attempt at faithfulness. Otherwise, make your own damn movie with your own damn story and call it something else. Don't try to cash in on people's affection for the original work by selling them on something familiar and beloved and then giving them something totally different.
However, since I know nothing about Constantine, I can escape all these dilemmas and just enjoy the movie and Keanu (who I think can be quite wonderful given the right material).
OK - so back to my orginal viewpoint,. I hate this movie sight unseen.
And on the Keanu love; I agree he can be wonderful in the right roles; it is just that I think that the right roles for him are the ones where he speaks very little.
For me, it's roles where he can play off of the fact that he looks like this clueless stoner guy. Speed let him do that. I liked him in Something's Gotta Give (which I wound up liking more than I thought I would anyway, although not as much as all the hype would suggest) because it was like "Sure, you're a heart surgeon. Aww, look at the cutesy-wootsey widdle heart surgeon." It's the same thing that made me like him in the The Devil's Advocate playing the most clueless lawyer to never lose a case ever. (I love this campy, cheestastic movie BTW, especially Al Pacino going so far over the top that he circles back and gets under it again) It's the same thing that made me like him in Matrix as no clue super hero and totally hate him in Reloaded and Revolutions as some kind of New Age Jesus complete with cyber crucifixion.
Happy Anniversary, Kat and Lori!!!
Totally unrelated to anything but the project I'm working on...does anyone know, are the WELL and Usenet basically the beginning of online communities?
Happy Birthday, Beverly!
