If I only had a brain...

Well, we don't know it's unsolvable. Just unsolven.

Danger is my middle name, only I spell it R. u. t. h. - Tina Belcher.

I like both Numb3rs and Medium. I like the actors on Numb3rs and the real lifeness of the marriage on Medium. Patricia Arquette alone does nothing for me, but I like the situations the character gets into.

I had a dream the other night that I was trying to help someone who doesn't get algebra get a handle on it. I told her to substitute familiar things like commodities for the abstract x & y, etc. Like s=shoes, and p=purses and so on. It worked for her. I have no idea if it would really work, I flunked algebra all three times I was trying to take it.

Art Crawl!!!

Hey, the Bloodhound that won the Hound Group is the one that one the National show last month.

Cool.

I watch Numb3rs and Medium. I like them both. I don't worry about the Math because mathiness is not me. Also, I love Joe DuBois and the kids and Allison's very non-glam home-life.

Also, I just read an interview with David Krumholtz where he says that the 3 in the title should really be a sigma and he's been trying to get the PTB to change it but so far it hasn't worked.

Wasn't he Wednesday Addams geeky boyfriend at camp in Addams Family Values?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I was terrified when they zoomed in on the whiteboard on Medium last night -- I was just sure the stuff on their was gibberish, and I wished they hadn't gotten quite so close.

I am fairly calm, but I would not say phlegmatic. HOWEVER, in a group that includes BOTH David and msbelle, I am MORE THAN WILLING to let them use up the available energy.

Okay, that time I ran up to her unannonced on the street in Manhattan? She flapped a little. But that's just because I'd broken just about every covenant of proper behavior in NYC.

You neglect to point out that you assaulted me! By surprise! On the street!

(Oh, but I do think it's funny that my posting style is pretty high-energy seeming. What with the !!!! and the ASSCAPS. Since that's really not so much me.)

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

They're supposed to have them in the mail on 1/31. So if you call, you can harass them safely.

I suspect the post office is to blame. The temporary change-of-address from the summer turned out to be quite the clusterfuck. I'll call the employers, but I probably won't need to harass.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I have a bad cold or flu or something. My whole body aches way more than it ever has before. I think I need all my bones removed, like that guy in the Ray Bradburry story.

Or maybe a hot bath.

"In the equation E = mc⬧, c⬧ is a pretty big honking number." - Scola

I have no idea if it would really work, I flunked algebra all three times I was trying to take it.

Dude, it totally would, or at least should. I think a good part of Math Fear is that people aren't taught to connect it to real-world stuff, so if they don't have a grasp of and taste for playing with abstract things, they get left behind.

Mind you, this is exactly what word problems are meant to do, and those are many students' least favorite bits.

Any other Perl people around? I seem to be having trouble matching a '?' within the phrase, even when I remember that it's a metacharacter and make it '/?' instead.

I'd start with the bath and work up to the bones, tommy.

I think the problem with typical textbook word problems is that they aren't real-world ENOUGH. The ones in my stats text book were just right -- because it was a book for social science students, the illustrations were numbers I'd really be looking at in real life, not trains passing in Iowa or whatever.
